Srážku tramvají v Bostonu nepřežila mladá řidička

Dvě tramvajové soupravy se srazily ve středeční večerní špičce v americkém Bostonu. Několik lidí se zranilo. Zaklíněnou a těžce zraněnou mladou řidičku jedné tramvaje museli obtížně vyprošťovat záchranáři. Ta svým zraněním ale podlehla.

Příčinou zadního nárazu tramvaje do jiné u stanice Woodland na předměstí Newton byla podle vyšetřovatelů chyba řidičky.

„První souprava zastavila na červenou. Druhá tramvaj do ní narazila zezadu,“ řekl mluvčí dopravního podniku.

Čtyřiadvacetiletá řidička zemřela. Transport do nemocnice potřebovala ještě desítka cestujících. Jeden z nich byl zraněn těžce, zranění dalších byla lehčího rázu.

Američtí Medvědi rozdrásali Tygry

 

Druhý zásah do domácí sítě v podání Bergerona.

Dvěma brankami a třemi asistencemi se předvedl Patrice Bergeron, český útočník David Krejčí asistoval u úvodní trefy Nathana Hortona.

Tipsport Arénu zachvátilo už tradiční "bílé peklo", které provází zápasy Bílých Tygrů v play off. Před utkáním ještě klub ocenil bývalého hráče a trenéra Jaroslava Nedvěda staršího a vyvěsil ke stropu haly dres s číslem 10. Prezident Bostonu Cam Neely poděkoval hostitelům za pozvání a vhodil slavnostní buly.

ONLINE: Liberec - Boston

Jediný český zástupce v týmu Bruins David Krejčí nastoupil v centru prvního útoku s Hortonem a Lucicem. Liberec hrál aktivně, vytvořil si několik šancí, ale na gólman Thomase neměl dlouho recept.

Domácí brankář Pinc v úvodu zlikvidoval šanci Carona, ale v 19. minutě už inkasoval, když jej po přihrávkách Krejčího a kapitána Cháry překonal z mezikruží Horton.

V druhém dějství měla nejdříve možnost vyrovnat formace Petra Nedvěda, ale ve 23. minutě ujel Bergeron a vychutnal si Pince blafákem do forhendu. Liberecké fanoušky zvedla ze sedadel 29. minuta, kdy po přečíslení Nedvěd přihrál volnému Podkonickému a také Thomas lovil puk ze své branky.

Bruins ukázali svou sílu i v oslabení. Při trestu dvaačtyřicetiletého veterána Recchiho byl po přihrávce Krejčího sám před Pincem Wheeler, ale neuspěl. O několik vteřin později vyzval Bergeron Carona, který už libereckého gólmana prostřelil.

V závěrečném dějství dostal příležitost si zachytat proti pětinásobnému vítězi Stanleyova poháru také Pincův náhradník Vošvrda a po 80 vteřinách si s ním pohrál po úniku Bergeron úplně stejně jako předtím s Pincem. Další minuty patřily jen Bostonu.

V 47. minutě využil přesilovku ranou skoro od modré čáry Seguin, dvojka letošního draftu NHL. Campbell s Wheelerem ještě před polovinou poslední dvacetiminutovky změnili zápas v debakl.

I tak se diváci nadále bavili při historickém vystoupení týmu zákládající šestice NHL na ledě klubu, který hraje extraligu až od roku 2002. Ale nerozjásali je po Thomasově zaváhání Špaček, ani následně Bárta.

Liberec hned ve středu čeká extraligové klání s Kladnem, Boston návrat do Prahy k další přípravě.Před Libercem se s kluby NHL utkaly jen v letech 1977 a 1978 Kladno a Pardubice na turné v zámoří.

Boston Hockey Arrives in the Czech Republic

PRAGUE -- A large local media contingent was lined up in front of the downtown hotel here when the bus carrying the Boston Bruins arrived curbside. No. 1 target, Zdeno Chara, whose Slovak roots and Czech fluency make him a media darling in this part of the world.

''They wanted to know things like, 'How's traveling?....what was the game like [Saturday night] in Belfast?...how many tickets will I need for the games here?....will my parents and friends be coming?''' Chara told a visitor from Boston once the local media crush dissipated. ''All good. It's nice being back here.''

Later, in a one-on-one interview with a Globe reporter that touched on many subjects, Chara didn't sound inclined to pursue an 11-year contract extension, contrary to a report out of Belfast over the weekend.

A Comcast Sports New England online story conjectured that Chara, on track to be an unrestricted free agent Juy 1, 2011, could be angling for an 11-year deal in the Hub, a pact that would end about a month after his 45th birthday. Asked about such a protracted term length today, during a lengthy and wide-ranging interview with the Globe, the relaxed big man said he would like a long-term pact, but one pegged around his 40th birthday.

''To be realistic,'' he said, ''probably something more like six or seven years. Eleven years? That probably would be too much. Think about it, 44-45 years old, that's proabably too far to shoot for...I'd rather focus on maybe 7-8 years. You want to be able to vision the distance.''


A day off skates

The Bruins didn't practice today, after arriving here following a 2 1/2-hour British Airways charter flight from Belfast. They'll be back on the ice for workouts Tuesday and again Wednesday morning prior to facing Liberec HC in an exhibition game in that city in the evening. The B's will return here the same night and then log three solid days of workouts prior to the season puck drop Saturday night.

Old pal Rob ''Biscuit'' Simpson, former NESN sideline reporter for B's games, joined the traveling contingent. He's preparing various video pieces, including one that will air on Comcast Sports New England.

Julien looks to power up

Coach Claude Julien reported that there were no bangs and bruises from Saturday's game, which included a pair of Tyler Seguin goals. Look for Julien to continue to tinker with power play trios and point pairings this week. He said after the win in Belfast that the units still need considerable shaping up.

Hokejisté Bostonu už jsou v Praze. V luxusním hotelu zabrali 80 pokoju

Luxusní hotel Four Seasons vedle Karlova Mostu se stal "medvědím brlohem". Obsadili ho totiž hokejisté Boston Bruins, kteří přiletěli v neděli po poledni do Prahy. Zabrali celá dvě patra, k dispozici mají celkem osmdesát pokojů! V Česku stráví jeden z nejslavnějších týmu na světě týden, jenž vyvrcholí víkendovými zápasy NHL proti Phoenixu.

Bruins dorazili do Česka z Belfastu, kde zdolali tamní posílený tým Giants 5:1. "Dlouho se hrálo bez gólů, jako první jsme inkasovali my. Ale pak jsme zabrali," vyprávěl po příletu do Prahy útočník David Krejčí, vycházející česká hvězda NHL.
V neděli se Boston přesunul ze Severního Irska do Prahy, kde bude mít základnu během týdenního pobytu v Česku. "Let byl velmi rychlý," liboval si slovenský obránce Zdeno Chára. "Dlouho jsem o tom mluvil a konečně jsem tady. Je to fajn pocit," říkal Krejčí.
Většina hráčů se trousila z autobusu v oficiální soupravě výpravy s logem akce "NHL Premiere Prague", i kanadské hvězdy tedy teď nosí na oblečení českou vlaječku.
V Praze se hokejistům zalíbilo už na základě toho, co viděli z autobusu na Evropské třídě. "To bych nechal mezi náma klukama," smál se Krejčí v narážce na to, že hokejisté nejspíš po cestě z Ruzyně pokukovali po českých dívkách.
První večer Bruins zřejmě bude patřit poznávání krás staré Prahy, v pondělí se začne trénovat a v úterý čeká mužstvo přátelský duel s libereckými Bílými tygry. "Nechceme nic podcenit, ani přípravné zápasy. Reprezentujeme tady nejlepší ligu na světě," upozornil Krejčí.
V pondělí proto svolají trenéři i krátkou poradu s videem. Podrobný rozbor soupeře, jaký je v NHL zvykem, se však konat nebude. "Chceme se soustředit na svou hru, jsme tu od toho, abychom ji vyladili. Nebudeme zkoumat, kdo hraje v Liberci na levém křídle a kam drží hokejku," dodal český forvard.
Zápas pod Ještědem je už dlouho vyprodaný, začíná v úterý v 19 hodin. Utkání NHL s Phoenixem jsou pak na programu v sobotu od 18 a v neděli od 16 hodin v pražské O2 Areně.

BELFAST — It was slow at the start, fast and furious in the middle, and in the end a face-saving one-night twirl in Northern Ireland for Boston’s bunch of Black-and-Gold leprechauns.

“Not an easy game to play,’’ said Bruins coach Claude Julien, moments after his squad had rubbed out the United Kingdom’s best and brightest, 5-1, last night in an exhibition game before a full house of some 5,500 at Odyssey Arena. “We had nothing to gain and everything to lose, and they had nothing to lose and everything to gain.’’

Rookie Tyler Seguin scored a pair of goals, including one on a penalty shot with 3:38 to go that closed out the scoring, and Zdeno Chara, Brad Marchand, and Milan Lucic also tallied.

That may sound like easy work, but the pesky Giants Selects, 20 players rounded up from clubs in Wales, Scotland, Great Britain, and here at the edge of the Irish Sea, held the Bruins scoreless for the first period and more than 18 minutes of the second.

Amid the freezeout, with the Bruins at times looking awkward and out of synch on the wider European ice sheet (15 feet more than the NHL variety), the Selects took a brief 1-0 lead. Racing down the left side with a feed from defenseman Jonathan Weaver, winger Jade Galbraith unloaded a snap shot from near the left wing faceoff dot that screamed past Tuukka Rask high on the glove side.

Giants, 1-0, and the team wearing the green was Boston — green around the gills. The Bruins were showing uncharacteristic jitters against a team with a talent level a notch below the American Hockey League.

“A little bit of the nerves,’’ said Chara, whose goal ended up being the winner. “In a different environment like this, it doesn’t take a lot. Maybe we were squeezing the stick a little at the start. You have to adjust.’’

Rask, in fact, believed it might have been the wider rink that played a part in Galbraith’s goal sailing past him high to the glove side. Accustomed now to NHL rinks, after growing up on big sheets in Finland, Rask said he probably didn’t read his angle to the shooter properly. He gave Galbraith credit for a laser of a shot, but had he been better positioned, he felt, he would have been able to grab it.

“Clear shot like that, I should have it,’’ lamented Rask, who probably will yield the cage to Tim Thomas when the Bruins play their final preseason tuneup Tuesday night in Lieberc, Czech Republic. “One of those that I’d like to have back.’’

The goal ended up being the boot to the backside the Bruins needed. Less than three minutes after the Giants posted the lead, Seguin scored his first of the night on a power play with help from Dennis Seidenberg and Matt Hunwick. It was the first of three goals by the Bruins in 46 seconds. Chara’s goal at 18:45 broke it open, 2-1, and Marchand’s strike at 19:10 increased it to 3-1.

“No question,’’ said Rask. “They got their goal, and then you could see our skill level go up.’’

Lucic’s goal at 8:09 of the third made it 4-1 and then Seguin had a breakaway that he failed to slip past goalie Steve Murphy, a backhander at the left post. However, Seguin was awarded a penalty shot, and the 18-year-old put it away with a clever forehand stuff at the right post. The No. 2 pick in the June draft appropriately made it look like child’s play.

“Not one of our best games,’’ said Julien, who mixed and matched his power-play sets all night. “But better than our last one. We’re getting there.’’

The destination is Prague, where the NHL season opens for real with weekend games against the Coyotes. The Bruins still have work to do before the season-opening faceoff.

BRUINS IN BELFAST: After touching down in Belfast at approximately 10 a.m. local time (5 a.m. ET) on Thursday, the Bruins had their first practice at Odyssey Arena yesterday afternoon. They hit the ice Friday for another skate in preparation for their game on Saturday against the Belfast Giants Selects.

WHO ARE THE BELFAST GIANTS SELECTS?:
-The Belfast Giants Selects are a team comprised of the best players throughout the United Kingdom's Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL). Many players have experience playing collegiately in the US and in North American minor leagues such as the American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League.

-The Giants Selects boast two players who call towns in Massachusetts home, as Mike Hoffman (Scuituate, MA) and Josh Prudden (Andover, MA) both hail from the Bay State. Prudden played collegiate hockey at the University of New Hampshire and played four years in the AHL.

-They are coached by Doug Christiansen, who is the Head Coach of the Belfast Giants. A former AHL player himself, Christiansen owns the distinction of fighting Shawn Thornton on October 15, 2006 while Thornton was a member of the Portland Pirates and Christiansen a member of the Manchester Monarchs.

A LITTLE ABOUT THE BELFAST GIANTS…
-They were founded in 2000 and have captured six championships in their 10-year-history.
-Their team colors are white, red and teal
- The Giants play their home games at Odyssey Arena in Belfast, which has a capacity of 7,100.
-Former NHLer Theo Fleury skated for the Giants during the 2005-06 season. He is described as the "most talented" player ever to play in the United Kingdom."
-Their captain is forward Colin Shields, a 30-year-old Glaswegian who was named the player of the year last season in the Elite League after tallying 34 goals and 53 assists and helping lead the Giants to the league title.
-General Manager Todd Kelman has called Saturday's game "the biggest game we have ever hosted in Belfast."
-Their season is already underway and they currently sit atop the standings with a 6-1-1 record in their first 8 games.

PRAGUE ON DECK: The Bruins will depart for Prague on Sunday and have four days of practice and one exhibition game before opening their season against the Coyotes on Saturday. Please note that the start times of the two regular season games will be 12 noon ET on Saturday and 10 a.m. ET on Sunday. Both games will be televised on NESN and broadcast on 98.5 The Sports Hub.
