Joe Cocker - You Are So Beautiful

There is just no other,  no face, voice, hair, soul, or being that I see as having any beauty at all.

It's just too late for my recovery of what was lost due to lack of recognition.  For family and Anna, all so much beauty, once clouded by life's overwhelming demands and my confusion.

Prague's New King Of Bohemia

Break Up - Blink 182 - You Fucked Up My Life - what went wrong

The song title is "YOU" fucked up my life,.... I know I did it to myself in my case.

Lyrics:

I'm sick of always hearing
All the sad songs on the radio
All day it is there to remind
An oversensitive guy
That he's lost and alone
Yeah

I hate our favourite restaurant
Our favourite movie
Our favourite show
We would stay up all through the night
We would laugh and get high
And never answer the phone

I can't forgive
Can't forget
Can't give in
What went wrong?
'Cause you said this was right
You fucked up my life

I'm sick of always hearing
Sappy love songs on the radio
This place, it's fucking cursed
In it's plague
And I can never escape
When my heart, it explodes

I can't forgive
Can't forget
Can't give in
What went wrong?
'Cause you said this was right
You fucked up my life

I'm kicking

What went wrong?
I'm kicking
Out fiercely at the world around me
What went wrong?
I'm kicking
Out fiercely at the world around me
What went wrong?
I'm kicking
Out fiercely at the world around me
What went wrong?
I'm kicking...

Gardens and Parks of Prague: Kinského Zahrada

Prague can quite rightly be proud of its more than two hundred historical gardens and parks, some of which have their founding dates as far back as the Middle Ages. The majority of the earliest gardens belonged to monasteries, and the private ones, surrounding palaces and town houses came later on in the Renaissance epoch. Every epoch brought its own style into garden design giving the gardens a certain look and layout that reflected the period philosophy and understanding of space.

Probably the most revolutionary garden design changes came with the Baroque period, when the monumentality of architecture became reflected in the gardens surrounding them. As opposed to the Renaissance flat and transparent layout, usually in regular squares, Baroque came with the axis composition, geometric shapes and patterns. At the same time, it plays with the vertical dimension, when the area is divided into the so called boskets, a clump of thickly planted trees or bushes to create an interior grassed space, or cabinet de verdure.

Another revolutionary change was the brand new concept of gardens in the style of English landscape design. Formal layout, regularity and geometry was replaced by the wild array of free growing woody plants, which were not maintained by cutting, and the overall ambience of the garden was to remind one of the wildness of nature. Soft curved flowerbed outlines, planted mostly by perennials, were reminiscent more of meadows than cultivated flowers. It was also around this time, in the 19th century, when the boom in travel, industrial revolution and technological advances brought about a new fashion to import various woody plants and flowers from foreign countries. Thanks to the collector’s passion of many noblemen, today we can admire aged trees, which we would have to otherwise travel far to see. On the other hand, many of those plants have over the years become domesticated and some of them cause significant trouble.

The revolutionary changes of the 19th century also meant that nobility had gradually opened its private gardens to the public. Today we can be pleased that a good number of these gardens were preserved with many of them having been renovated to their original appearance. We can therefore keep enjoying them.

Kinského zahrada
Kinského zahrada jsou sady v Praze na Smíchově. Spojují oblast Anděla s Petřínským

A bird’s eye view of Petřín Hill will clearly reveal how the Hunger Wall separates Lesser Town on one side and Smíchov on the other; it would also reveal on the Smíchov side a rather endearing garden commissioned by its name bearer Prince Rudolf Kinský. Its elaborate landscaped design was the brainchild of the designer František Höhnel.
The area was planted in orchard style which involved planting the place with wide array of local as well as exotic tree species; the project included some rather demanding changes to its terrain. In addition to that, Kinský initiated the development of the Empire Summer House and of a 380 meter water tunnel that supplied not only the villa and the garden with water but also fed two ornamental lakes and waterfall.
After the area was bought by Smíchov and City of Prague, the originally private garden opened its gates to the public in 1901 with the plan to establish ethnographic orchards. Due to financial reasons, the original grand plan was brought back to earth and replaced by much more modest version. More...

Monumental Exhibition to Mark 800th Anniversary of Saint Agnes of Bohemia - Prague

An exhibition entitled Saint Agnes of Bohemia – Princess and Nun will open at the end of November in the Convent of Saint Agnes of Bohemia.

Visitors to the exhibition will learn about St. Agnes, one of the greatest Czech personalities, who contributed to the foundation of the first network of social services in Bohemia.

The exhibition will show liturgical objects, documents and period works of art with the theme of St. Agnes. The most precious exhibit will be an original head of a column with the very first representation of this prominent Czech saint.

The exhibition is organized as part of the 800th anniversary of the birth of St. Agnes by Prague Archbishopric and the National Gallery. The opening will be symbolically held on 25th November, i.e. only 22 years after Agnes was canonized. “Agnes waited for a long time for her beatification and canonization. There are not many materials linked to her life, that is why it is difficult to tell the story of her life. Still, our team collected a number of valuable historical sources and works of art, which will interest our visitors,” says the exhibition’s co-author Vladimír Kelnar.

The gem of the exhibition will certainly be the head of a column with a portrayal of St. Agnes, which comes from the Sanctuary of Salvátor,  the burial site of the Přemysl Family, located in St. Agnes’s Convent. The fact that it actually is a representation of St. Agnes had not been known for a long time. The discovery was made by the author of the exhibition Helena Soukupová, who found out that statues in other convents and monasteries portraying their founders were located in the same place as the head of the column with St. Agnes.
“Agnes was a notable medieval personality who made great contributions in the area of charitable care and in art. She also had good knowledge about the cultural and social life in the world. Perhaps this is why she decided to found the convent in Na Františku, where as the first abbess she helped people in need. She lived there for almost 50 years until her death,” explains Helena Soukupová.

Restoration of gilding

At present, the original of the head of the column is being restored by Jitka Malovaná. “We found out that the head was originally gilded with golden strips, which we will gradually uncover, as in the past the head was treated in an inconsiderate way,” explained Jitka Malovaná. Another of the exhibition’s attractions will be the original altar from the sanctuary by Mikuláš Puchner from the end of the 15th century. Furthermore, the exhibition will present many paintings and texts illustrating the life of one of the greatest Czech women saints.

Sv. Anežka Česká, patronka plynařů, 13. listopadu

Sv.
